Modeling

Started at 15.07.2010

Modeling out of foam step started in the roof office. Selected sketches were modeled on the hot wire which was made by Kayahan. Each foam model was tested orthopedically and ergonomically. All models were evaluated in various sessions by the team.

Then in winter 2010, wooden models were made in Metal Wood Ceramic Workshop at Izmir University of Economics (IUE).  http://www.mwcworkshop.blogspot.com/

While modeling proces were contunuing, modeling and sketching process was going on at the same time based on the design briefs rooted from CLOUDS.

Clouds for Clogs: Assimilating a design method

The main focus of this project was a design of a traditional to contemporary craft object. This time the chalange was not to design a product from a zero. New bathing clog designs should be rooted from traditionals, cleverly.

When the team sit on a table to start sketching, their pockets were full of data on traditional bathing clogs. The question was how to transform this data into design. For sure, the team had to create and implement design methods to manage this process. After many brain storming sessions and mind maps were created out of information collected in the previous phases, a design method called CLOUDS was made (assimilated from mind map and brain storming sessions which was to organize data for features of new bathing clogs design). By creating the Clouds, the team was inspired for sketching and developing new designs.

Creating the method called Clouds for clogs
The clouds worked as an engine to design concepts...So, the sketching started.
The team locked themselves into the table for three days and nights. Without criticizing negatively and eliminating any ideas, they sketched. The sketches created based on the early sketches of the team leader Mine.

They got the first step of the 2D development in the hottest day of Urla, after long working hours, days and weeks; Of course, a gift was given to them. The team throwed itself to a beach in Urla.
